Abstract
The management of extracurricular activities in developing students' artistic talents and interests is crucial because these activities help foster social bonds among participants and enhance the reputation of the school, region, and nation. The issue addressed in this study is that the management of extracurricular activities, particularly in the field of arts, is still not optimal. The objective of this research is to understand the planning, implementation, and obstacles of extracurricular activities in the development of students' artistic talents and interests at SMP Unggul Calang - Aceh Jaya.
This study uses a qualitative method with techniques of interviews, documentation, and observation. The subjects of the study include the deputy head of student affairs, the artistic extracurricular supervisors, and the students participating in the artistic extracurricular activities. The results show that: 1) The planning of extracurricular activities aimed at developing students' artistic talents and interests begins with a meeting at the start of each academic year involving the principal and team to discuss the goals of the extracurricular activities, training schedules, selection of talented extracurricular teachers, provision of facilities and infrastructure, and funding. 2) The implementation of extracurricular activities involves recruiting talented students, conducting guidance sessions on Fridays and Saturdays from 14:00 to 17:00 WIB, and sending talented students to various competitions and special events. 3) The obstacles in the artistic extracurricular activities include inadequate facilities and infrastructure, lack of expert human resources, and insufficient funding, which hinder the process of developing students' artistic talents and interests. This research is expected to be continued by future researchers.
