This study focuses on the issue of low Arabic speaking skills (maharah kalam) among eighth-grade students at MTs Miftahul Qulub Mojokerto. Students experience difficulties in expressing ideas orally, lack confidence when speaking in front of the class, and face a shortage of engaging and contextual learning media. The objective of this study is to develop a game-based learning media called “Monopoli Kalam” to enhance students’ speaking skills.
This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects of the research are eighth-grade students at MTs Miftahul Qulub Mojokerto. The analysis stage was conducted to identify students’ needs and obstacles. The design stage involved creating game-based media according to speaking skill indicators. The development stage produced a media prototype that was validated by experts in content, media, and language. The implementation stage was carried out through a limited classroom trial, followed by the evaluation stage using pretest and posttest assessments.
Analysis of the research results in terms of validation showed that the Monopoli Kalam media obtained an excellent feasibility score, with validation percentages of 74% from content experts and 70% from media experts. The effectiveness test results, based on the t-test, showed a t-value of 4.289, which is greater than the t-table value of 2.024 with a p-value of 0.000. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This means that there is a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of improvement in speaking skills.
