Abstract
This study aims to describe the problems faced by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in implementing the Independent Curriculum at SMAN 1 Majene. The Independent Curriculum is a new educational policy that emphasizes learning flexibility, character building, and the maximum development of student potential. In its implementation, PAI teachers play a crucial role as learning facilitators who must be able to adapt approaches, methods, and materials to student needs and characteristics.
This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews with Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, the principal, and the vice principal in charge of curriculum, as well as observation and documentation. Data were analyzed descriptively using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques.
The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at SMAN 1 Majene was carried out through several stages: preparation (improving teacher competency and developing teaching materials), lesson implementation (opening, main, and closing), and evaluation of learning outcomes. However, several challenges were identified among Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, including uneven understanding of the curriculum, limited technological capabilities, and a gap between learning outcomes and students' basic abilities. To address these challenges, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers participated in training (bimtek), reviewed basic religious skills, and implemented a variety of learning methods such as group discussions and collaboration. This study concluded that the successful implementation of the Independent Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects was significantly influenced by teacher competency, adequate training support, and creativity in designing learning that met students' needs. Therefore, it is recommended that schools and the government continue to provide assistance, technical guidance, and supporting facilities for teachers in implementing the Independent Curriculum.
