Abstract
Learning the yellow book in Islamic boarding school-based higher education is a unique study worth researching. One reason is that the increasing number of Islamic boarding school-based higher education are abandoning the yellow book tradition in classroom learning. This differs from Kiai Abdullah Faqih Gresik University and Al Fithrah Institute Surabaya which continue to exist by making the yellow book an advantage based on local wisdom (Islamic boarding school). Based on the findings above, this research focuses on two problems. First, how is the implementation of yellow book learning in Islamic boarding school-based higher education? Secondly, what is the yellow book learning model that can increase student expertise in Islamic boarding school-based higher education? To find answers to the problem focus above, the researcher used a qualitative case study approach, and data collection techniques through archival recordings, observation, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis uses Robert K Yin's theory, namely: pattern matching, explanation, time series analysis, and re-observation. The first research finding is, Implementation of yellow book learning at Islamic boarding school-based higher education, Kiai Abdullah Faqih Gresik University and Al-Fithrah Institute Surabaya. starting from the learning component, guided by the learning components above, the implementation of yellow book learning is carried out through three core stages, namely: First, learning planning; Second, the stages of implementing learning. Third, learning evaluation. Secondly, the yellow book learning model to increase expertise in the field of fikih at Kiai Abdullah Faqih Gresik University is the contextual literacy learning (CLL) model. Meanwhile, the yellow book learning model in increasing expertise in the field of tasawuf at the Al-Fithrah Surabaya Institute uses the contextual multiliteracy learning (CML) model.
