Abstract

LGBT definition has changed over time and geographically diverse. Sociocultural attitudes toward sexual orientation and gender identity seem to be
contrast between who are progressive and welcome with large populations who
decline. This research was conducted to gain better understanding of Islamic
scholar paradigm and social role of the LGBT phenomenon in Cirebon, using
descriptive and qualitative approach and Comparative Analysis.
The results of this study: (1) Islamic Scholar paradigm of LGBT
phenomenon is still textual; (2) Islamic scholars have not publicly performed
their role of social and humanitarian in LGBT group; (3) There‘s a need
for Islamic scholars to have the same paradigm toward the existence of
LGBT apart from the Holy Law, Psychological side and humanity; (4) It‘s
imporatant to establish an institution which handles cases of LGBT
(advocacy, health, and psychology); (5) It‘s also necessary to manage and train
volunteers (Psychiatrists, Therapists, doctors, counselors) as Islamic scholar
mediator in cases of LGBT; (6) Last but not least, teaching sex education
properly and comprehensively to children is a need.
